Rastafari is a spiritual movement based on the Judeo-Christian biblical tradition and Ethiopian culture. The name Rastafari is taken from "Ras," meaning "prince" in the Amharic language, and "Tafari," the name of the emperor of Ethiopia. The Kebra Nagast is the equivalent of the Judeo-Christian Bible for Rastafari. Rastas see themselves as decendents of the royal line of Ethiopian kings, to include: Solomon, the king of Israel; Menelik; Jesus Christ; Emporer Haile Selassie "King of Kings" and "Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah" and present day Ethiopian rulers. |
